Be A Good Neighbor

Dear NYU Violet,
Welcome to the vibrant landscape that is New York City! As an NYU student, you are not just part of the university community, but also an integral member of the broader NYC community. As we enter a new academic year and many of you settle into your residences, we'd like to share some tips and reminders to ensure that you make the most of your time here in a way that is considerate of your neighbors.

Get to Know Your Neighborhood: NYC is made up of countless neighborhoods with unique histories and diverse groups that contribute to the City’s vibrancy. We encourage you to say hello to your neighbors, take advantage of your neighborhood association sponsored activities, local special events and we thank you in advance for your support of the local businesses. Doing so will help you better understand the culture and forge lasting bonds with your neighbors.
Be Mindful of Shared Spaces:  Familiarize yourself with local rules and regulations. For instance, NYC has specific noise ordinances that we all should be aware of and respect. Always be courteous and clean up after yourself, whether in common areas of your building or in public spaces around NYC. The City is asking all of us to do our part.
Enjoy with Awareness: NYC outdoor common areas offer picturesque views and unforgettable memories. If you're fortunate to have access to these spaces, please remember to keep noise levels down, especially during late hours. Everyone appreciates a tranquil evening.
Represent with Violet Pride: Remember, you are an ambassador for NYU. Your actions, positive or negative, reflect on the entire university community. Let's show NYC the best we have to offer!
We trust you'll have an incredible year ahead filled with exciting adventures and academic triumphs. Let's make it a great year!

Warm regards,
